Something white and creamy for Sunday

This is my most favorite cakestand and as silly as it is, it’s one of my most prized possessions (I aim small). I originally saw it about 5 years ago in a feature article/spread in Country Home magazine. I immediatly had to seek it out. I looked everywhere on the web Googling ‘cottage metal cake stand’ and finally I found it at Stonewall Kitchen. Unfortunately, they don’t carry them anymore. But, I did get mine and two other sizes that came with it. I love it!

The other photo is of dessert cups of white chocolate mousse. Who can resist that?

I can show you now…

I finally sent this painting to my friend Kim…it was her Christmas present, and for a variety of reasons, I didn’t get to send it to her till now.

She received it, she loved it and now I can show it to you! I did this one a bit different than the collages I made for my other friends. I painted just her face instead of a body. I used a collaged paper background with other collaged elements combined with paint.

Snowy Wednesday all white and Green?

click each photo to enlarge if you wish to see more detail.

Happy as a lark to be standing in the snow for a brief snapshot. I’m happy no matter what. It has to be pretty horrible for me to go a day without being happy. It’s just me.

The grocery store parking lot…you’d have to be half nuts or ‘blond’ to shop on a day like today.

My kids report to me the trampoline is frozen solid to the ground with no hopes of moving it till a spring thaw arrives.

My snow covered cars.

My front bushes donning light weight snow for a new, wintery look.

My cold, snowy porch, not nearly as inviting as it is in warmer months.

This morning, despite my reluctance to venture out, I headed into the cold, fridgid outdoors to go grocery shopping. Man, is it cold out! I snapped some photos from around my house so you can see the snow as it was falling. It is so terribly frigid, like single digits, the snow has an artificial look and feel to it. It’s very light and you can blow it off the windows and railings. Because of the very low temps, it hasn’t gotten a chance to slush up and get heavy. Seriously, it’s as if a big snow machine came though and created a winter wonderland.

Also, my green journal page for today. After all this white cold and snow I’m thinking green spring with warm showers and black umbrellas all about.

My self-portrait art journal pages for Monday and Tuesday

I’m participating in Misty Mawn’s monochromatic art journal challenge and it’s been really fun! I got the dates mixed up, I was supposed to put 1-12 on the blue page and 1-13 on the Orange, but screwed up stamping the dates on…duuh, blond moment-again!

I’m having fun manipulating photos of myself in Photoshop 6.0 and giving them artistic qualities. I can make them look like they were drawn with charcoal pencils or as if they were sketched and many other ways. The technique I used for the blue page was the ‘cut out’ feature using the Artistic Filter. I will also be drawing myself, too…but that’s for later.
These are just the beginnings of my art journaling. I’m also taking an online art journaling class with Kelly Kilmer. She gives us prompts to follow and the rest is based on our own creativity. Between these two journaling activities, I hope to improve my skills and develop better techniques and eventually get my own style going. I’m still working it all out and experimenting. Everytime I create a journal page I think of something new I can do to embellish it. This is all a part of the process.
The music I listened to while making the orange page is Diana Krall-The Look of Love. It’s very torchy, jazzy music and was perfect for how I was feeling at the time.

Hope you enjoy looking at these. They are a fantastic way to pepper a little art into every day and doing that just makes my heart happier. Art is life.
Tomorrow’s page-green.

Narcissus

Have your paperwhites bloomed? It’s January, you know!

I love these flowers, however whenever I get some bulbs and actually grow them, when they bloom they have the distinct smell of urine. Does anyone else think they smell like pee? They sure are pretty, though. (Just hold your nose when you look.)
