A little excerpt of hope, from Eat. Pray.Love

Last night I was reading my book, EAT, PRAY, LOVE.  I came across the following quote that so moved me, I felt compelled to share it.  Maybe it will hit a chord with you, too and give you hope, if that is something you might be needing right now at this time in your life.

“But I felt a glimmer of happiness when I started studying Italian, and when you sense a faint potentiality for happiness after such dark times you must grab onto the ankles of that happiness and not let go until it drags you face-first out of the dirt-this is not selfishness, but obligation.  You were given life; it is your duty (and also your entitlement as a human being) to find something beautiful within life, no matter how slight.”

  1. I have been working on the words synchronicity and serendipity, so I’m not surprised to see this post on your blog, Em! I just wrote something similar in my journal -not for me, because I wrote these words to myself 10 years ago and truly took them to heart – but to a friend who really needed to hear them. So many of us (women) need to truly HEAR these words, because we put everyone’s needs before our own. We have to learn to be our own mothers and to say to ourselves, “You are entitled, my child, to live a life of beauty. Here, I will help you.”

  2. If you say so hun…I keep reaching for those ankles and grabbing balls instead, then I get slapped off. Even I admit, being grabbed by the balls is painful. {SNORT}

  3. I loved that book and I love these words. Like Lilly and Teri commented, they are coming at just the right time. Thanks!
