That time of year seems to have come to Chicago, too. In what seems like overnight, summer has dropped its heels and come to a screetching halt. Literally, one day last week it was 90 and the next morning, everyone awoke to 72 degrees. It’s been around that temp since. I’ve had to shut off my air conditioning and just this morning there is a nip in the air, and you need a sweater in order to just feel comfortable. Just yesterday, there was a steady rain, and the day was cloudy and wet and cool. It was a perfect day to stay in and sew, curl up and read and do multiple loads of laundry in between chapters.
What’s strange to me, though, (and you may feel the same way if you are a midwesterner or someone who lives where the season’s change more noticably), but it seems like I remember the seasons having a smoother transition. I remember it taking them longer to settle in. Now, over the last 15 years or so, it seems like they change overnight. Strange.
Still, I’m ready for sweaters and falling leaves. I’ve had enough of summer. I’m bored of hot weather and I’m ready for the next season. I’m going to reach for that extra blanket and spread it out over my bed. I’ll crank open the windows at night and let the crisp air waft in which will compell me to pull the blanket up to my neck, and I’ll sleep ever so soundly. Are you ready?
Ha! I'm glad for YOU & others who see Autumn before November(and THAT'S if we're LUCKY) but HERE all we are seeing is a parade of hurricanes, threatening and damaging. I can't WAIT till the end of January when I move to Wisconsin! REAL SEASONS at LAST! Enjoy the new crispness in the air, Em! It sounds heavenly!
